Site Preparation & Grading

Site Preparation and Grading in Bozeman

Every build starts with the dirt, and React-layouts shapes it to the plan. Site preparation covers clearing, topsoil stripping, cut and fill, and rough-to-finish grading that turns a raw parcel into a pad with set elevations, drainage slopes, and a subgrade compacted to bear a foundation. We run excavators, crawler dozers, and skid steers on parcels from Cooper Park to the acreage off Baxter Lane, using laser and GPS grade control to hit the numbers.

Why Grading Is Worth Doing Right

Grading is what keeps water moving away from your structure instead of pooling against it. A pad cut to a positive slope and compacted to 95 percent of maximum dry density (measured against a Standard Proctor test) will not settle under load. Skip that density check and the same ground cracks slabs and shifts footings. We test before we finish, so the surface you build on is the surface the engineer specified.

Our Process

We strip and stockpile topsoil, cut and fill to rough grade, and place any imported structural fill in controlled lifts. Then we compact, test density, and dial the surface in to finish grade within tolerance. Topsoil goes back over the finished contour for seeding, and spoil is hauled off in dump trucks.
